The Embankment

6 The Embankment, Bedford MK40 3PD, UK – 01234 261332

Lovely clean rooms. Free toiletries were provided, staff were friendly and helpful despite our late arrival at 11pm. There was strong air "freshener" in the room, so had to open windows to ventilate the room. On request the staff let us leave some food overnight in the bar fridge. Breakfast was available from early morning (7:30am) and there were plenty of options available and in general very tasty. A great stay overnight before the Bedford Regatta in May 2018.

Fashionable spot for lunch or weekend / post work summer drink. Main road right outside and high drink prices spoil the atmosphere slightly. Food is sometimes great and sometimes underwhelming. Their brunches are superb though, and coffee comes with smarties! Top choice for a working lunch meeting too and despite the road is still a picturesque spot.

The Bedford Swan Hotel

The Embankment, Bedford MK40 1RW, UK – 01234 346565

Spent a night here on my own for the first time and it was the best experience ever. The staff made me feel at home and greeted me in the morning as well as offered to make my coffee for me whilst I served my food. Amazing food, comfortable bed and very hygienic toilets. Will be coming back and recommending. Thank you :) 5 stars from me.

Stayed here for two nights. Thought it a little expensive for what we received. Staff, however were fantastic. Very friendly, couldn't be more helpful and polite. Good breakfast although as an additional cost to room rate. Did not eat in the restaurant in the evening. Car parking additional £10 but on site and convenient. Lovely location next to the river and close to shops and restaurants. Would probably stay again.

The Pilgrims Progress

42 Midland Rd, Bedford MK40 1QB, UK – 01234 363751

Popped in for a late bite to eat whilst in Bedford on business. Nice enough place and you know what to expect from a Wetherspoons.... decent value food and a no frills service in a friendly pub environment. Waitress was quite attentive to be fair and checked in on my food a couple of times and even thanked me for the positive response when she asked me how my meal was. No doubt will visit again when back down here.

Good bar. Amazing value. Good location. Car park opposite in addition to a Tesco and a hotel above. Ticks pretty much all the boxes. I couldn't rate this five star only as I wouldn't consider it a five star establishment although for what it offers and the value provided it is an easy five star

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Park Pub & Kitchen

98 Kimbolton Rd, Bedford MK40 2PF, UK – 01234 273929

My second visit to The Park in Bedford with the real sensation that there is a very different quality between the plates on the menu. The veggie snack with peas and chickpeas page is not very good nor tasty...the peas & mint risotto quite good but not even a hue of mint flavour. The vegetarian fresh pasta is good. Lamb and Chicken recipes not bad but I feel their prices are too expensive...gently staff. Not excellent but good. Not very expensive but maybe a bit.

Very delicious twist on the traditional Sunday lunch. Lovely garden area. Dog friendly so totally gets the thumbs up from me.

The Ship

7 St Cuthbert's St, Bedford MK40 3JB, UK – 01234 267126

Fairly recently refurbished with better use of the space for this period building. Friendly staff who serve you with a smile. World Cup was on, but as you don't get the lager louts in here normally it meant a pleasant atmosphere. Could do with somewhere to be shaded in the garden for those rare moments when we get more than two days in a tow of sunshine!

It's a lovely pub, beer garden is amazing and very pretty. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. 10/10 would go again and again.

The Pheasant

300 Kimbolton Rd, Bedford MK41 8YR, UK – 01234 409301

Good selection of food, beers and beverages. Good place to sit & enjoy a meal

Pretty pub located on Avon Drive, Bedford. Good food and drink.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

City Stay Apartments Bedford

Grove House Apartments, 29 Goldington Rd, Bedford MK40 3LH, UK – 01908 664516

Very good location, nice and clean appartment. The matress not extremelly comfortable.

I stayed here not so long ago when away on business just outside Bedford. The apartments were stunning - clean and the facilities were more than I expected. Cooking for yourself and having free Wi-Fi makes it very cost effective too...

Very friendly. Comfortable. Coming back again.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
